What's the Highest Virtue in Modern Evangelicalism?
[Guest: Nathan Busenitz]

Ten days ago, a notable and large group of Evangelical leaders released "An Evangelical Manifesto: A Declaration of Evangelical Identity and Public Commitment." What is this Manifesto all about? Why is it being released now? What is there to discern in the document positively and/or negatively for Christians? And finally, what now seems to be the highest virtue in modern Evangelicalism? Nathan Busenitz, Associate Pastor of Grace Community Church, author, frequent writer on Pulpit Magazine, and personal assistant to John MacArthur will join me to provide some clarity and answers.

John Stonestreet's New Book Now Available

Making Sense of Your World: A Biblical Worldview

This book offers a basic, accessible introduction to biblical worldview that covers all of these aspects of world-view thinking. Part One compares the basic worldviews, Part Two contrasts (and seeks to defend) the biblical worldview with the others, and Part Three constructs a biblical worldview in four key areas. This book is an overview; the Christian thinker is invited to continue his or her study through the recommended readings at the end of each chapter—an ongoing task Paul labels the “renewing” of our minds (Romans 12:2).

If God is good and all-powerful, why is there pain and suffering in the world? Does God want His people to be filled with joy? Bauman speaks on author C.S. Lewis' beliefs of pain and suffering. It's a good thing there are still men in the pulpit like Pastor Steven Lawson, one of this country's most well-known expositors of Scripture and author of many books, including The Expository Genius of John Calvin. Considered the "clean up hitter" at Pastor John MacArthur's Shepherds' Conference, Lawson brings an old school, Reformation-era preaching style and method to the pulpit that is not soon forgotten. Pastor Lawson joins me on the program on Saturday to define what expository preaching is, how Christ and the disciples modeled it, and why those entrusted with leadership of the flock need to get back to it.

"Et tu, Brute?" Caesar utters these words as he is being stabbed to death and recognizing his friend Brutus among the assassins.
Intelligent Design and Science

Ben Stein's film Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed has broken through the steel ceiling around Colorado Springs, Colorado. The Colorado Springs Gazette (April 18, 2008) devoted nearly a page to the discussion of Intelligent Design (ID). One article by an agnostic actually supported ID being discussed in science classrooms; another article by an atheist disagreed, saying ID has no place in science classrooms, but could be discussed as a mental disorder in psychology classes. Insisting that ID is pseudoscience, not science, the atheist says, "Science produces testable guesses. If something isn't testable, it's not scientific."

Christians and Environmentalism: To What Extent and At What Expense? [Guest Cal Beisner]

Alleged concern for an allegedly human-caused deteriorating environment that will allegedly cause catastrophic disease, hunger, and conflict around the world has become the unifying issue de force in politics, business, education, media, and religion. Mainstreamed by Al Gore's documentary "An Inconvenient Truth", Gore has said "Jump," and we're responding, "How far?" "How far" indeed? Evangelical leaders are urging Christians, in statements like the Evangelical Climate Initiative, to join the fight against climate change, or as they like to phrase the movement, "creation care." "After all," they say, "God wants us to be good stewards of His creation." Yes, the world and the church have gone head-over-heels for environmentalism. The question is, should Christians be going with them, and if so, to what extent and at what expense?

Due to the newness of the Summit Oxford program, the initial application deadline of April 15th for the 2008 autumn term arrived too quickly for many who desired to apply (or who were wrestling with their taxes). In light of this, the deadline for the autumn term has been extended until June 15th. Cheers!
