Our country seeks answers to fundamental questions about the value of human life. During this event, we will take time to reflect on the answers your students are adopting as their own concerning issues of human life. Do you feel equipped to help your students think critically about the answers they are believing?
Summit Ministries and Life Training Institute invite you to think critically about the ethics of abortion and questions regarding issues about the beginning and end of life and technologies that directly impact our communities. Join Scott Klusendorf and Megan Almon as they help us think critically about these hard issues and help connect students to move beyond what they feel to pursue biblical truth.
Scott Klusendorf travels throughout the United States and Canada training pro-life advocates to persuasively defend their views in the public square. He contends that the pro-life message can compete in the marketplace of ideas if properly understood and properly articulated.
Scott is the author of The Case for Life: Equipping Christians to Engage the Culture and co-author of Stand for Life. Scott has also published articles on pro-life apologetics in The Christian Research Journal,Clear Thinking, Focus on the Family Citizen, and The Conservative Theological Journal.
Chuck Colson, founder of Prison Fellowship, said: “Scott first grabbed my attention when Focus on the Family featured one of his presentations on its national broadcast. I was struck by his ability to communicate truth so clearly and insightfully. I’ve heard many speakers who deliver excellent content, but few who can actually equip people to communicate their pro-life convictions to a secular culture. In fact, I was so impressed with Scott’s talk that I phoned him directly to learn more about his work. After that, I scheduled him as a keynote speaker for our own Breakpoint conference.”
Megan worked as an award-winning journalist until 2008, joined Life Training Institute in 2009, and was awarded a Master of Arts degree in Christian apologetics from Biola University in 2011. Megan’s favorite part of her job at Life Training Institute — aside from sharing life-saving training material and getting to help students nationwide understand who they are and why they matter — is being a student of her craft. She enjoys following her curiosity on topics that relate to pro-life apologetics and is currently most interested in questions related to aesthetics; the power of great stories and how they relate to human dignity and the Gospel; the vital importance of true community and its impact on human flourishing: and human limitations and creativity.
The issue of abortion has been shoved to the forefront of our nation’s discourse in recent months. Scott Klusendorf, President of Life Training Institute, will give an update as to what’s happening at the national level, and why it’s vital to engage on this issue at this unique time in our history. Then, Megan Almon will present a clear, compelling case for the pro-life view. She will teach you how to bring clarity to the issue in conversations by focusing on the most important question at the center of the whole debate. She’ll make a case for the humanity of the unborn by appealing to science. And she’ll make a philosophical argument that demonstrates that there is no relevant difference between embryos and adults that would justify killing the former. Her presentation will equip you to be able to offer compassionate and persuasive answers to pro-life questions in the public arena.
Scott Klusendorf has defended the pro-life view with grace and truth for decades. He has faced tough objections from those who disagree, confronted hostility with gentle tenacity, and wrestled with some of the most sophisticated pro-choice arguments out there. That’s why he is familiar with common arguments offered by abortion advocates, and why they’re problematic. Deepen your understanding of the pro-life case as Scott turns things inside out and presents bad ways people often argue for abortion. His presentation will teach you to spot flaws, ask good questions, and offer answers that keep conversations about abortion on point while demonstrating gentleness and respect in the midst of disagreement.
Scott and Megan will tell you that when life issues clash with popular trends and personal values, everybody wants to change the subject. The key is to keep the main thing the main thing. In this session, Scott and Megan will offer insight into the undercurrents — worldview thinking that swirls beneath the surface and the bioethical issues that bubble up as a result. They’ll explore the dangers that result when individuals believe they can construct reality according to their desires, as well as the predominant view of what it means to be human that drives the cultural discussions on issues across the spectrum of life from beginning to end and everything in between. Learn effective ways to engage in these beyond-the-surface matters that will help you keep your footing. When you stand strong, you’re able to keep others from being swept away as the debates over making, taking, and faking life grow in intensity.
